Salary: Up to £40,995 (dependent on skills and experience)

Who we are:

To provide an efficient technical Non Destructive Technical capability to internal and external customers that enables the appropriate governance and assurance checks with the objective to deliver our products and services safely, to time, cost, quality and required standards. To be proactive, agile and be able to absorb and assess multiple sources of information to establish solutions to production problems to ensure agreed deliverables. The role will involve qualifying to PCN Level 2 Non Destructive Examination in the following disciplines as directed by the business: DPI, MPI

Role description:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will apply Systems Engineering principles across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition through design, integration, verification, customer acceptance, in-service support, and system disposal. You will leverage your expertise to develop system and sub-system level solutions that meet stakeholder needs and regulatory requirements. The role involves resolving complex engineering challenges, providing technical leadership, and ensuring successful system integration and delivery. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, you will drive coherent system design, support risk management, and contribute to continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and compliant engineering outcomes across a range of project scenarios.

Core Duties:

  • Comply with the NDEC Local Rules, Ionising Radiation Regulations, The health and safety at work act and other relevant safety regulations at all times
  • Carry out NDE tasks such as MPI/DPI and when required proof Reading NDE Reports and identifying administrative errors
  • Manage NDE Radiation Equipment and Calibration – Ensuring equipment is kept in date for calibration via the NDEC Equipment Calibration Spreadsheet and delivering and collecting equipment from the calibration department
  • Act as Sentry on site Radiography tasks and carry out simple maintenance of NDEC equipment

Essential Skills:

  • You’ll have a background in engineering, preferably having completed a recognised apprenticeship in a constructive discipline or similar in the marine ship repair industry
  • You’ll hold awareness of Non-Destructive Examination processes such as Magnetic Particle Inspection, Dye Penetrant Inspection, Ultrasonic Inspection, Radiographic Inspection, basic radiation safety and visual inspection
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate strong technical abilities in your trade, using problem-solving skills alongside sound schedule and specification growth management experience

The NDE team:

The NDE Team are a critical team to support our constructive survey, workshops and repair activities on all steel, aluminum and Glass Reinforced Plastic structures and Royal Navy vessels. It is a contracted support service covered by the other engineering output specifications, which has KPI’s on the service provision and capability.

You will be joining a dynamic friendly team with a wide range of skills and experience with the opportunity to both work in Portsmouth Naval Base and on deployment aboard when required.
