Technical Specialist – Airframe (CDO)

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

Responsible to the Design Team Leader, you will be undertaking a Typhoon Design support/liaison role within the Typhoon Support Centre (TSC) at KFdAB, Taif, Saudi Arabia.

The role requires the job holder to provide on hand design support (structural repairs/ design advice) to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) forward, depth and SMU maintenance organisation by responding to and approving Airframe Technical Queries and offering Design Authority advice to the RSAF utilising the Team Centre Query resolution process.

Providing Support to the RSAF in generating National Instructions from Industry provided approved data.

The role requires the job holder to carry out day to day liaison between the UK based ‘In Service Support Team (ISST), Typhoon Design Support Team and the RSAF ensuring that service level agreements are met for Technical Queries and discrete tasking such as Logistic tasks and Repair instructions.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Answering queries on the Typhoon Airframe, within scope of their delegated authority using approved data or seeking design approval for query responses where required.

  • Ensuring all queries, responses, status prioritisation is recorded on the Teamcenter system via the Technical Query Management Co-ordinators.

  • Liaising with query originator to fully understand query and populate Teamcenter system accordingly.

  • Providing initial analysis of queries to determine and agree acceptance, prioritisation and best route to providing an answer, liaising with appropriate stakeholders including the RSAF, IWSST and the various areas of the Typhoon Design Support Team Back Office.

  • Assisting Maintenance and Line Technical Support staff in the resolution of on-aircraft problems.

  • Interfacing with European Industry via the ISST and the various areas of the Typhoon Design Support Team Back Office to obtain a response as appropriate.

  • Interfacing with the Typhoon Design Support Team UK on all technical matters to prevent duplication and ensure common approach to problems. Ensure also shared information.

  • Ensuring query responses have received all relevant validation signatures.

  • Providing input to the status reporting process.

  • Assist in analysis of Technical Specialist Reports and data provided by In-Service Data Management Team to identify trends in maintenance and operational problem areas on the Typhoon Airframe to identify where improvements can be made.

  • Providing structured On-the-Job training for Saudi National Technical Specialist Staff, in form of training, coaching, work experience and mentoring as appropriate.

  • Providing Support to the RSAF in generating National Instructions from Industry provided approved data.

  • Support to the production of the monthly reports and KPI claims.

 

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Must be educated to Degree/HND level in a relevant engineering discipline or have relevant experience supported by formal, recorded workplace applied related training.

  • Experience of aircraft structures gained in an aerospace design or design support related environment.

  • Hold or be capable of holding a design engineering signature.

  • Computer literate with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Capable of working independently, or as part of a team, under extreme pressure and to tight operational timescales.

  • Understanding of Engineering, Design, Airworthiness, Safety and Quality standards.

  • Knowledge of export control requirements (ITAR/USEC)

Desirable

  • Experience of the Typhoon platform.

  • Experience in working with CATIA, EDSRS and VisView with an understanding of

  • Typhoon drawing layouts.

  • An understanding of Structural Health Monitoring.

  • Knowledge of PLM/Teamcentre.
